Two Tales of Terror from the Twisted Minds of the Sisters of Slaughter, Michelle Garza and Melissa Lason.

In “Just a Few,” Tom is a junkie thief who saw a monster at the last house he burglarized. Ian is a cop who doubts the junkie’s story. When forced to investigate, Ian drags Tom along for the ride. What they find in the house makes Ian a believer.

In “Tenant’s Rights” a young woman experiences frustrating and frightening phenomena in her new rental house. The lazy landlord is no help to her at all. It turns out he’s hiding something hideous that is determined to make its presence known.

I have to admit, I am a sucker for things that go bump in the night, and I feel in the current world of horror that that itch is just not being scratched like it should be. But thank you world for The Sisters of Slaughters’ "Double Barrel Horror" entries "Just a Few" and "Tenant’s Rights."
"Just a Few" goes straight for the mental jugular at first with the police interrogation that the tale opens with. The story asks the question, do we believe the junkie and his tale of horror? I will say I was amazingly shocked to find out what was really lurking within the pages.
The second tale "Tenant’s Rights," has a slower build than the first, letting the reader get just as p****d off as the current tenant is with her landlord. But the eventual ending will make one pull their legs up under the blankets and hope their place of residence is hiding no ill will.
I highly enjoyed both of these short stories, and I would recommend them for anyone who is currently looking for something a little more physically creepy. The stories are rapid fire, but brimming with tension and horror, and of course, a little bit of gore.

Double Barrel Horror Just a Few/Tenant Rights edition by Melissa Lason MIchelle Garza Matthew Weber Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Short horror stories are a tricky business. It's good to read a pair of stories from two women who understand the business. Both stories start the way good horror should, with mundanity. They quickly turn up the terror and leave it there. Excellent work, ladies.
Excellent! Creepy and twisted tales from some new-to-me authors! I loved the first story, gory and chilling. I got creeped out by the second story. You could almost feel the heat! So good, and I'll be reading the whole collection nowQ
This was a horrific read and it should be avoided if you are squeamish. Just a forewarning to those who are not into intense horror. Otherwise you may enjoy this book, stories I recommend highly. This is my first experience with the sisters of slaughter and I appreciate their writing style
This was a darn good installment of DBH if I do say so myself. The ending of Tenant’s Rights though left me angry. Why? LET ME TELL YOU WHY! It was a bloody cliffhanger, THAT’S WHY! This is, of course, exactly why I loved it. Both stories leave you wanting to know just a little bit more about their respective characters. If you do nothing else, read this installment of Double Barrel Horror. Do it right now.
Keep the lights on as you peruse these two nasty nuggets. "Just A Few" concerns a junkie, running to a police station, crying bloody murder. Accompanied by two officers, a grisly discovery awaits them. In "Tenant's Rights", a house renter, living in deplorable conditions, is revealed the harrowing truth regarding the abode....
The Sisters of Slaughter are not to be taken lightly. The first story shows no mercy as it ratchets up the tension and whips you to the end - no time to pause or take a breath. The second story seems to slow the pace - but don't turn your back on The Sisters! This story was chilling. I'm sleeping with the lights on tonight. And tomorrow night...
I am a fan of the Sisters of Slaughter, and had a great time reading these two short stories, as I knew I would. The redoubtable team of Michelle Garza and Melissa Lason have a knack for conjuring up interesting, down-on-their-luck characters who are suddenly confronted with extreme horror, giving them an appreciation that maybe their previous life wasn't so bad after all. While their stories are intense and horrifying, I often detect a sly wink of humor lurking just behind the action. I remember a Gary Larson Far Side comic depicting an airplane traveler heaving a sigh of relief that a monstrous looking co-traveler has passed by the vacant seat beside him, heading for the rear of the airplane. What he doesn't see is a larger, doubly monstrous co-traveler coming up the aisle behind the first one. It is just this kind of "well, you think you have it bad now? We'll show you!" suggestiveness in the tales of the Sisters of Slaughter that I find delectable.

The story loaded into the first barrel is "Just a Few". A junkie tries to convince police that during a residential break in to steal some percocet tablets he saw a hideous monster roaming through the home of an 80-year old church deacon and his wife. The excitement starts when he convinces the police to investigate. The second barrel is loaded with "Tenant Rights". Down on her luck newly divorced Sharon can't get any sleep in the low-rent Arizona house that she has leased from a slum lord. The lights and air conditioner keep malfunctioning, something keeps making scratching sounds in the ceiling, and she is getting covered by bites from vermin. She has put in 15 calls to her "lazy fat-ass" landlord Neal to no avail. She finally gets a call back from the repentant Neal, who offers to break the lease. Unfortunately for Sharon, while Neal is explaining to her the horrors of the house that he somehow forgot to reveal to her before she put down her money, Sharon is experiencing those very horrors in person.

This book is highly recommended to readers looking for an hour or so of extreme horror and fun.
